Which payout mode should I choose?

Most marketplaces do well with Automatic plus a few days' delay — vendors get paid hands-free, and most refunds arrive before any money has left. Choose Manual for full control, or Instant if vendors should be paid the moment an order is confirmed.

What if a vendor hasn't connected Stripe yet?

They can still sell. Their earnings wait as Pending and are paid once they finish connecting.

What if a vendor already has a Stripe account?

Even easier during setup they sign in with their existing Stripe login and reuse their verified details. Their marketplace earnings appear as a separate account under the same login.

What if a vendor's balance is empty when a refund happens?

The customer is still refunded right away. The vendor's share gets a warning in Vendor Payouts, and you recover it later with one click (Retry reversal) once they've earned again.

One order, two vendors — one recovery works, one fails. Is that a problem?

No. Every vendor is handled separately, the customer and the other vendors are never affected.

Where do I see what needs my attention?

Vendor Payouts → tick "Only payouts needing attention" . That's your to-do list: each row shows why it failed and Retry reversal fixes it when the vendor has funds again.

When does a vendor's balance go negative?

Not from a normal failed recovery that just fails safely and waits for a retry. A balance only goes below zero when Stripe allows it: connected reserves, or Stripe-initiated charges like disputes and chargebacks.

Does Stripe recover a negative balance automatically?

Yes. The vendor's next sales pay the debt first, bank payouts stay paused until the balance is positive again, and where supported Stripe can debit their bank directly.

Can I test everything before going live?

Yes, with a test key the whole flow (checkout, onboarding, payouts, refunds) runs in Stripe's sandbox using test cards.

Who bears the loss if a vendor's debt is never recovered?

Normally the platform - that's the standard marketplace setup. Your best protection is a payout delay: with Automatic or Manual mode, most refunds are settled before the vendor was ever paid.
