nopCommerce Solution Partners Explained (and How to Vet One)

What a Gold, Silver or Bronze badge actually certifies, how to read a partner's directory listing, and the checks that tell you more than any badge can.

Your shortlist has three agencies on it. The first has a Gold partner badge in its website footer. The second calls itself an "official nopCommerce partner" on its About page. The third never mentions partnership at all, but it sent you links to four live stores it built. All three quoted within 20% of each other. Which one has told you the most?

Most store owners assume it's the first, and that assumption is exactly what the nopCommerce solution partners program is good at producing. The badge is real and it means something, just not what most buyers think it means. In our audits of stores that came to us after a bad build, a partner logo was often the main reason the original agency got hired, and it was rarely the thing that went wrong.

This guide explains how the nopCommerce partner program actually works, how to read a Solution Partner listing, how to confirm that a claimed partnership is real, and what to check once the badge has done all it can. By the end, you'll know how to rank those three agencies using evidence rather than logos.

What the nopCommerce Partner Program Actually Is

Before judging the badge, it helps to know who hands it out and why. nopCommerce runs its partner program from its own website, and there isn't one program but three, each certifying something different.

Solution partners
Development and marketing agencies that build, customize and promote nopCommerce stores. This is the badge agencies put in their footers.
Hosting partners
ASP.NET hosting companies that nopCommerce recommends for running a store. A hosting badge says nothing about development skill.
Technology partners
Payment, tax, shipping, ERP and other service providers whose integrations with nopCommerce the nopCommerce team says it has developed and certified.

When an agency says it's a "nopCommerce partner," it almost always means a Solution partner. The first thing worth knowing is what that relationship gives the agency. According to nopCommerce's own "Become a partner" page, Solution partners get two things: leads, because the partner directory gets more than 60,000 page views a year from store owners looking for help, and discounts on copyright removal keys and other nopCommerce services.

The key fact: Solution Partner status is a commercial relationship between an agency and the platform vendor. It gets the agency listed and gives it discounts. It is not an independent audit of the code that agency will write for you.

None of this makes the program meaningless. Partners have applied, been accepted, and are publicly accountable under their own name on the platform's website. It does mean the badge alone is a starting filter, not a verdict. If you're still getting to know the platform itself, our overview of what nopCommerce is and who it's built for covers the ground this program sits on.

How to Read a Solution Partner Listing

Knowing what the badge is, the next question is what the directory tells you beyond it. More than most buyers realise, as it turns out: every listing carries hard numbers, and those numbers matter more than the badge colour beside them.

Those are the counts nopCommerce's Solution Partners directory showed in September 2026. Each partner card shows its level (Gold, Silver or Bronze), a ranking points number, and six fields: country, certified developers, websites, plugins or themes developed, case studies, and years of partnership.

The level is the least informative field

The directory itself doesn't explain what separates Gold from Silver from Bronze. nopCommerce keeps the levels, terms and benefits in a partnership brochure, not on the listing. So when you're looking at a card, you can't tell what earned that level. The six counts beside it are far more informative.

The range within one level shows why. Among the Gold listings we reviewed, certified developer counts ran from 101 down to 0, listed websites from 241 down to 0, and years of partnership from 15 down to 1. Two agencies can carry the same Gold badge and have nothing else in common.

Two agencies can wear the same Gold badge and share nothing else. Read the counts beside the badge, not the badge.

What the ranking points mean

The number at the top of each card is the partner's score in what nopCommerce calls its solution partners ranking program, and the directory is ordered by it. One input is published: nopCommerce's certified developer page says each certified developer on a partner's team boosts the company's rating. So a high rank partly reflects how many developers have passed the exam. That's a real signal, but it isn't a measure of your project's fit.

Partner, Certified Developer, Marketplace Vendor: Three Different Claims

The directory card mixes company-level and individual-level evidence. That's also where agency marketing tends to blur things, because "certified," "partner" and "official" get used as if they mean the same thing. They don't. Here's what each claim actually certifies.

The claim What it certifies Where you verify it How much it tells you
Solution partner (Gold / Silver / Bronze) The company has a partnership agreement with nopCommerce and a public listing. The Solution Partners directory on nopCommerce's own website: search the company's name. Starting filter
Certified developer An individual passed nopCommerce's online exam: 50 questions, 60 minutes, open-book, 80% to pass. nopCommerce's certification directory, and the Certified Developer badge on that person's forum profile. Individual baseline
Marketplace vendor The company has published plugins or themes other store owners can buy and review. The official nopCommerce Marketplace, and the "Themes & Extensions" tab on a partner profile. Shipped, public work
Live stores you can open Nothing official. It's simply evidence the work exists and still runs. Your own browser. Ask for URLs, not screenshots. Strongest evidence
"Official nopCommerce partner" with no listing Nothing at all. If the name isn't in the directory, the claim can't be verified. Red flag

The certification is worth understanding precisely. According to nopCommerce's certified developer program page, anyone can take the exam for a $100 non-refundable fee, and a failed attempt can be retaken for another fee. Passing proves a developer knows the platform well enough to answer 50 open-book questions. It doesn't prove they can run a clean 4.60-to-4.90 upgrade on a store with eleven third-party plugins.

Ask who is actually certified

A listing that says "12 certified developers" describes the company, not your project. Ask the agency which of those developers will be named on your contract, then look those individuals up in the certification directory. We've seen proposals whose headline credentials belonged to people who never touched the account.

How to Verify a Partner Claim in Ten Minutes

Now go back to the three agencies from the introduction. Two of them made partner claims. Here's how to test both before your next call, without technical knowledge and without asking anyone's permission.

  1. Find the listing yourself. Open the Solution Partners directory on nopCommerce's website directly, not through a link in the agency's proposal, and search for the company name. Filter by the agency's country if the list is long.
  2. Match the legal entity. Compare the listed company name with the name on the proposal and on the contract you'd sign. Resellers and white-label subcontractors sometimes borrow a partner's badge. The contracting company is the one that matters.
  3. Read the six counts. Check whether the websites and case-studies numbers match the portfolio the agency sent you. A firm claiming "hundreds of stores" with a single-digit website count owes you an explanation.
  4. Open the profile tabs. Each partner profile has Overview, Themes & Extensions, Services, Projects & Clients, Location and Contact partner tabs. The Overview is written by the partner itself, so treat it as marketing. Projects & Clients and Themes & Extensions are where the evidence is.
  5. Check the badge click-through. A badge in a website footer is just an image. If it doesn't lead to a listing on nopCommerce's site, it proves nothing.
Reassuring signals
The listing matches the contracting entity. The website and case-study counts line up with the portfolio. Named certified developers appear in the certification directory. Profile tabs link to real stores and real extensions.
Signals to question
"Official partner" wording with no directory listing. A badge image that links nowhere. A listing under a different company name. Zero certified developers and zero websites behind a high-level badge. Credentials that belong to people who won't work on your project.

This part of vetting is specific to nopCommerce. For the broader question of how to compare development companies side by side, including engagement models and the contract clauses that decide whether you can ever leave, our guide to choosing the right nopCommerce development company picks up where this checklist stops.

What the Badge Can't Tell You

Say agency one's Gold listing is genuine and its counts look healthy. You've confirmed it's a real partner, but that still doesn't show it's the right partner for your store. Four questions decide that, and none of them appears on a directory card.

Stores like yours
A partner with 200 small B2C shops may never have built quote-based B2B pricing or a multi-vendor payout. Ask for work in your model, not just their total.
Upgrade history
Every nopCommerce store eventually needs a major-version upgrade. Ask which upgrades they've completed and what broke along the way.
Who does the work
The listing describes a company. Your store gets built by specific people, and whether they stay on the account matters more than the headcount.

The fourth question is what you own at the end: the source code of every custom plugin, the repository, the deployment process and the admin credentials. A partner who resists putting that in writing is telling you something the directory never will.

The upgrade question deserves the most weight, because it's where nopCommerce projects most often go wrong after launch. Our nopCommerce upgrade checklist shows what a competent partner should describe without being prompted. If you're hiring individuals rather than an agency, the questions change, and we cover those in how to hire a nopCommerce developer.

Where BSS Stands, and How to Check Us

A guide like this should apply its own test to its author. Bangladesh Software Solution is not currently listed in nopCommerce's Solution Partners directory. You won't find us there, so we don't ask you to trust a badge. That leaves the rest of this guide, and everything else in it can be checked.

Our shipped work is public and installable from this store: full theme bundles such as NopGadget and NopNoor, the Nop REST API plugin, and payment and shipping integrations you can read about, buy and review. The engineers who built them are the same team that takes on custom builds, upgrades and support. We'll put the people working on your store in the contract by name.

The Partner Vetting Checklist

Everything above fits into one pass you can run on each agency on your shortlist before you sign anything. Work through it in order. The early items take minutes, and the later ones are for the one or two agencies that make it that far.

Before you sign with a nopCommerce partner

  • Found the agency in nopCommerce's Solution Partners directory yourself, or noted that it isn't listed.
  • Confirmed the listed company is the same legal entity named on the proposal and contract.
  • Compared the listing's websites and case-study counts with the portfolio the agency sent.
  • Opened at least three live stores they built, in a browser, not as screenshots.
  • Looked up the certified developers who would actually be named on your project.
  • Reviewed plugins or themes they've shipped publicly, including ratings and support replies.
  • Asked for a completed major-version upgrade they can describe in specifics.
  • Got written confirmation that you own the source code, repository, deployment process and admin credentials.

Budget belongs in this conversation too, but only after the evidence checks out. Once it does, our breakdown of what a nopCommerce store costs to build will help you judge whether a quote is realistic.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a nopCommerce Solution Partner?
A Solution Partner is a development or marketing agency with a partnership agreement with nopCommerce and a public listing in the Solution Partners directory on nopCommerce's website. Partners get leads from the directory and discounts on nopCommerce services. It's one of three partner programs, alongside hosting partners and technology partners.
What is the difference between Gold, Silver and Bronze nopCommerce partners?
They are partnership levels. nopCommerce publishes each level's terms and benefits in its partnership brochure, not on the directory itself, so a listing shows the level without explaining what earned it. The counts on each listing (certified developers, websites, plugins or themes developed, case studies and years of partnership) tell you more, and they vary widely within a single level.
How do I check whether an agency is really a nopCommerce partner?
Open the Solution Partners directory on nopCommerce's own website directly and search for the agency's name. Confirm the listed company matches the legal entity on your contract. A badge image or "official partner" wording on the agency's own site doesn't count as proof unless a matching listing exists.
Is a nopCommerce certified developer the same as a nopCommerce partner?
No. Certification belongs to an individual who passed nopCommerce's online exam: 50 open-book questions in 60 minutes, with 80% required to pass. Partnership belongs to a company. A partner's certified developers raise its directory ranking, but make sure the certified people are the ones who will actually work on your store.
Should I only hire an official nopCommerce Solution Partner?
Not necessarily. A listing is a useful starting filter, but it reflects a commercial relationship with nopCommerce rather than an audit of any firm's work, and capable teams exist outside the directory. Judge every candidate, listed or not, on live stores you can open, publicly shipped plugins or themes, named engineers and a real upgrade history.

Final Thoughts

Back to the shortlist. Agency one's Gold badge got it an honest look, but its listing counts and the people named on its proposal decide whether it keeps that lead. Agency two's "official partner" line is a claim you can now check in five minutes, and if no listing turns up, you can drop it. Agency three, with no badge but four live stores, has given you the most verifiable evidence of the three. It still has to pass the same checklist, but it's no longer the obvious last choice.

That's the real value of the nopCommerce solution partners program for a buyer. It's a public, checkable starting point, not a shortcut past vetting. Use the directory to find candidates and the counts to question them. Then let live stores, shipped code and named engineers make the decision. If you'd like to run that test on us, talk to our engineers and ask for all of it.
